The Literacy Connection needs volunteers to tutor adults in Basic Literacy and English as a Second Language (ESL).
If you are at least 18 years old, can read, write and speak English, we invite you to become a volunteer tutor. No teaching experience or knowledge of a second language is required, and the time commitment is minimal.
Potential volunteers are asked to attend a one and a half hour orientation. After that, they may decide whether to attend 16 1/2 hours of workshop training to be a tutor. Training is offered at different times and locations to be as accessible as possible. A small fee is charged to cover materials. Administrative volunteers are also needed for mailings, graphic and web design, event planning, and other special projects.
