Help to make a change in someone’s life and become a Volunteer Literacy Tutor!
The Literacy Connection has over 100 adult learners in our community waiting to be matched with a tutor like you!
Our Tutors help other adults with their English literacy skills, at a time and place convenient for both tutor and learner. NO PRIOR TEACHING OR TUTORING EXPERIENCE IS NEEDED! We’ll train and guide you through the tutoring process. Join us at one of our upcoming Tutor Orientations to learn more!
To Become a Literacy Volunteer
Potential volunteers are asked to attend a New Volunteer Orientation. After that, you will need to attend a total of 6 training sessions to become a volunteer tutor. During the workshops, specialized training in English Second Language (ESL) and Basic Reading (BR) tutoring is offered. Once you complete training you will be matched with a student by our program coordinator. You will meet regularly with your student at a mutually convenient time and public place, such as a library, for 1-2 hours per week. We ask that tutors commit to a minimum of one year of service.
