Gaining Reading Fluency with Multi-syllable Words

Monday, November 10 from 9:30 - 11:45 a.m.  CALL 847-742-6565 TO RSVP!
at the Gail Borden Public Library's Conference Room
270 N. Grove Avenue, Elgin IL 60120

Breaking down the sounds found in a multi-syllable word can be challenging for our students. There are A LOT of letters to work with: vowels can be long, short or have the infamous "schwa" sound (when a, e, i and o sound like a short u as in "about."); there are digraphs as well as blends--sometimes all in one word!  This workshop will help you find better methods to work with when breaking down and decoding those "long" words that some of our students find so daunting.

About the facilitator:  Marcia Gutierrez began tutoring for adults in 1999 with a volunteer program in San Jose, CA. She later took training with the International Dyslexic Association (IDA) so that she could help her daughter who was home schooled. Marcia has a M.Ed through Framingham State College.
